Road trip to Prague
The wife wants to take the kids for a week to Greece, however, Iv got the cup final dilemma!

with a fair bit of arm twisting Iv half talked her into letting me hire a motor home and let me take us on a road trip to Prague.

However, she’s still dubious, she’s worried if the fan-zones will be suitable for our 2 kids, 11 & 7 (my 7 year old boy loves going to games, loves the atmosphere) so the only way to find that out is by going on the day and if it looks like getting too lively then we’ll do the off.

My question, can anyone hit me up with a couple of things to do on route that’s suitable for families? Any nice camp sites or theme parks in Germany that anyone’s been? Obviously it can’t be too far off route to Prague.

We’ve got a week so should fit a couple of things in but I need to make it sound appealing to the mrs and daughter before I book the motorhome.

Alternatively I go to Prague with the boys, fuck the family holiday off and have to live with being a selfish cunt for a few weeks.

bru - if you don't mind paying (and you can nab an appointment soon - I got one pretty quick even during the strike), you've currently got AGES. I say that it'll take longer (that's the official line) but I bet it doesn't in reality.

Re: Road trip to Prague
I did - mine was a renewal (after less than four years, thanks to Brexit). At my appointment I sought guarantees (ie begged and made the woman promise repeatedly) that the old one would be returned as it's got my US visa in it which I need next month (they're a real pain to get). Old passport came back separately a couple of days after the new one. Cost me £171 for the One Week Fast Track and the bigger passport.

You can renew having 'lost' your passport if you like - takes longer though.

Heads up for those driving from Germany ...

Just noticed theres a border charge of 100 euros for crossing into Czech and your supposed to advise the hire company of your intention to do so. Reading the small print, insurance is invalidated otherwise ..... obvs depends on your individual risk appetite but if anything goes wrong, that’s a costly error.

Also noticed a lot of hire companies have maximum mileage limit - 600km.

OTB.

Do you need your old passport to be be given a new one? If not, I'll I'll give that a go, cheers.

Of course, we could all forgo this time consuming and expensive travel because the REAL fans will be glued to laptops or phones contributing to the matchday thread on here.

Well thats according to that clown over in Poland.

Had to get mine done in a week recently. Came back in six days after visiting the new passport office by the Excel, so it can be done.

Check https://www.passportwaitingtime.co.uk/, https://twitter.com/passportwaiting/ and https://twitter.com/ukpassportcheck which are very helpful.

In my day, getting one of those brown paper emergency passports (which I thought were rather elegant in an old-fashioned way) was a matter of going down the post office, filling in a form and handing over a tenner. Imagine my surprise to discover these now set you back a ton when the whole process is online and can take 24 hours.

Shocking really

Sand iron, try Phantasialand near Cologne. I lived there. It’s 4 hrs from Calais and the park is just off the autobahn, and it’s a good city as well

My advice would be to leave the wife and kids at home for this one.

Re: Road trip to Prague
Maybe not direct as the crow flies, but not madly out of your way... if you drive through to South West Germany you can visit Europa Park in Rust then pick up the start of the Donau (Danube) in the Black Forest and follow it East for a while. Bloody lovely with great scenery, good food and good beer

Sand Iron

My mate and I went on a fishing trip to Czech and it is a beautiful country, plenty of camping sites with rivers to hire boats and enjoy the outdoors if you are motor homing it

have a dig about and you are sure to find something appealing - and if you are shrewd, near a rail line to 'pop into Prague' for the game and outside of the match, take the family

Fan zone will be fine as it'll just be West Ham in there. Fiorentina have their own.
